How to Update Your Outfit For A New Season
I would like to introduce you to the first of many of my outfit posts. Today I woke up energized and optimistic, and I tried to reflect this feeling in the casual but sophisticated nature of this outfit.
Contrasting color with fibers is one of the easiest ways to transition your closet during the changing of seasons. The bright green of my slip dress pulls in the hues of a concluding summer, and I contrasted the bright, summery color with warm, knitted neutrals—note black leather and white knits. By combining a summery color with cold weather textures, you’re able to make a turtleneck work in August or a slip dress work in September.
Here are some tips for transitioning your closet from season to season:
Mix and match autumnal colors with summery silhouettes and fibers, or vice-versa
Incorporate light layering in more exposed summer outfits
Pair an autumnal outfit with ballet flats or low sneakers instead of boots. Exposing the ankles will make the outfit less wintery!
Add in cold weather accessories to a warm weather outfit, like a wool wide brim hat or crew socks with your loafers. When the season changes, switch to sockless shoes like sandals or espadrilles with a lightweight baseball or bucket hat
Balance is key! If you have a heavy outfit, accessorize with lighter options like a silk scarf or statement sunglasses. If you have a lighter outfit, add weight with a shearling bag (right on trend for Fall 2022) or warm toned tortoise shell jewelry
If you have a season you want to incorporate into your outfit without making it too summery, wintery, etc., subtly reflect the colors of that season in your accessories. If you have a summer dress you want to make more autumnal, add on leather boots, black sunglasses, or a dark leather belt. Your outfit will still be fit for the temperatures of summer while still pulling in the hues and trends of the upcoming season
With fall right around the corner, here’s a little inspiration for how you can incorporate these tricks into your wardrobe. Leave a comment with your favorite way to transition an outfit between seasons!
